Rational Enterprise Named as Sample Vendor in 2015 Gartner Hype Cycles

New York, NY – Rational Enterprise, a leader in Information Governance software, announced today that it has been included in Gartner’s July reports entitled “Hype Cycle for Enterprise Information Management, 2015” and “Hype Cycle for Data Security, 2015” for its specialization in Data Classification.*

In the article, Gartner analysts define data classification as:

the process of organizing information through an agreed categorization glossary, enabling effective and efficient prioritization for information governance policy spanning quality, security, access, privacy, storage and retention. The most common use cases are for business value, analytics, compliance, discovery, integration, risk, security and privacy. Data classification involves applying metadata information to the data to facilitate the utilization and governance of the data.

According to Gartner, the benefits of embracing data classification for data security and enterprise information management are significant:

Many organizations believe that the most efficient way to manage data in the future will be to classify it at time of creation. As information management processes continue to evolve and classification tools improve, organizations will need to worry less about data growth and will instead be able to focus on efficient and reliable data use and reuse.
